Character Linkage Game requires at least two players. Each player make up a valid phrase in Chinese depending on another player's response. Players take turns and each player gets one turn. Here is how the games works:

1. One player starts with game with by picking a Chinese vocabulary word or phrase of at least two characters. (Ex. 汽车)
2. The next player takes the last character of the phrase that was given by the other person and makes up a new phrase beginning with that character (Ex. The last character of 汽车 is 车, so the new phrase has to begin with the character 车. Phrases such as 车祸， 车轮， 车子 can be one of the possible answers)
3. Then it is the next player's turn to make up a new phrase following the same rule used in #2.

Players who are not able to make up the new phrase after a certain time limit or made up an invalid phrase (which would mixture of characters that makes no sense in Chinese) would be automatically disqualified. The game goes on until there is only one person remaining who had continued to create new phrases throughout the game without error. The purpose of the game is to foster a deeper understanding of individual Chinese characters and their relation to other characters. This game can also be modified so that it fits the level of the players. Using flash cards or giving each player a few tries before they are disqualified are features that can be added to make the game more interesting.
