黔驴技穷 (qián lǘ jì qióng)
Literal Translation: The Guizhou donkey has exhausted its tricks.
Meaning: To appear to be capable but in reality has little or no ability.

A long time ago, there were no donkeys in Guizhou Province. One day, someone brought a donkey from somewhere else into the province and tied it to a tree at the foot of a mountain. A tiger saw the donkey, and thought that it was an animal that was more powerful than it, so it hastily hid behind a tree to spy on the donkey. When the donkey brayed loudly, the tiger was frightened, thinking that the donkey was about to attack and eat it. After a while, the tiger began to feel that the donkey was not really that powerful, so the tiger slowly approached the donkey and started teasing it. The donkey grew angry, and it used its hooves to kick the tiger. The tiger suddenly realized something: This is the only thing that the donkey is really capable of! It then jumped on the donkey, killed it and ate it.
