Hello, this lesson is about greeting people in Chinese.

Jane: 你好.
Amy: 你好.

To ask a person “How are you?”,you say:

Jane: 你好吗?

How are you? - 你好吗? (nǐ hǎo ma)

Notes:
The word 你 means "you" in Chinese. To see how to write this word, please click here.

The word 好 by itself means "good" in Chinese. The character 吗 means "how" in this case. It is usually is placed at the end of a sentence to indicate that the sentence is a question.
